Opening Hymn: He Leadeth Me: O Blessed Thought UMH128
Call to Worship:+
By this I have known the presence of the Lord:
in the rising of the sun, in the smile of another’s face,
in the touch of a hand or the sound of a laugh,
in the scent of a flower holding the promise of spring.
By this I have known the power of the Lord:
in the healing of hurts, in the forgiveness of sin,
in the giving of gifts beyond all expectation,
in the shower of love that comes from God’s Son.
Let us give thanks to the Lord with all of our heart!
Let us worship our God, whose presence and power endures forever!
Opening Prayer:
Psalter Reading: Psalm 111
Proclamation and Response
Confession, Pardon and Words of Assurance
The Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord;
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead;
he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life
everlasting. Amen.
Reading of the Old Testament: Deuteronomy 18:15-20
Reading of the Epistle: 1 Corinthians 8
Worship Hymn: Majesty, Worship his Majesty UMH# 176
Reading of the Gospel: Mark 1: 21-28
This is the word of God for the people of God.
Thanks be to God.
Message:
Response to the Word
We have heard a new teaching from Jesus, this Nazarene who speaks with authority. We have seen how Christ com- mands even unclean spirits to flee, and they obey him. Jesus calls us to exorcise demons—in every form they take.
God of grace and God of mercy,
grant us wisdom for the facing of this hour,
and for all the hours and days of our lives. Amen.
Prayers of Concerns and Joys:+
The Lord’s Prayer:
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the Kingdom, and the Power and the glory forever, Amen.
Tithes and Offerings:
Closing Hymn: O Master, Let Me Walk with Thee UMH#430
